This is very interesting, I'd imagine the use of CBT to condition a empathic response from a psychopath to work, but not to the extent in which it's genuine. If a person centred approach was used to underpin the CBT a deeper understanding of the emotions, scenarios and people involved with the empathic reaction would be provided for the psychopath. Assuming this approach works, the empathic response would be more real......would take a lot of time though

I'm training to use this style of therapy, it's an integrative ideology, I would use attachment theory alongside the for mentioned to guess the responses a client would give, but psychopaths aren't the main focus of my reading ATM, so not sure if it be the right approach and it would also depend on the individual and the direction they wish to take therapy

Ah awesome! Yeah Psychopaths are pretty much the sole territory of Psychiatrists, they are interesting to read about but they'd be out of my depth (When I qualify) and probably yours :l Especially seeing as nearly all would be involuntary patients so CBT would be difficult to use on them. But hey! There are a lot of people out there who can benefit from it so helping those is a good goal :D

Very much so, the best of luck to you as well, one tip make sure you get some related work experience under your belt too whilst you study, if your not doing so already, really helped me out on getting onto my MSc and actually applying the the theory when you see a situation unfold is awesome :)

Yeah hehe, I've got a few things lined up for when my health improves. Unfortunately I'm sort of housebound at the moment but things might pick up soon. What sort of experience/placement did you find beneficial? The best ones I can think of would be only borderline related to mental health. There is an alzheimers/dementia specialist carehome not too far from me that could be worthwhile, especially since I've done work there before.

The care home would be a good start, I worked in a school as my under grad was based around child and adolescent mental health, in all honesty you may not find one where you do loads of specific psychological work, but a general area where you can pick and choose what theory you can carry out would be a good start then build from there. For example within one to one sessions I used Eric bernes theory of strokes to build self-esteem. And it worked really well
