Actually it is the battle flag, the real confederate flag was one above. People chose to demonize the flag and say the South went to war over slavery. We didn't, we went to war because we were being taxed and many other things without say in the government. Pretty much like today, the only reason slavery was involve was because Abraham didn't want the British involved so he made the Emancipation.
True some wield the flag for hateful purposes but that doesn't mean thats it true meaning. It stands for freedom and state rights with values that little people believe in anymore. Sometimes I like to ask them, "Do you even know why they pick up this flag and fought against the North?" and most of them have no idea what to say.
My grandmother side of the family has been here since the 1700s and even fought against the British, in the Squirrel division. My grandma actually still has the original letter sent by George Washington to everyone who fought in the War. When I look at the letter it reminds me what our country should stand for and boy has it lost its way.
