I thought that I remember him following the blood trail and taking the flower off of the man...does that happen right after that or is that a different scene?
Yes he picks the Edelweiss flower off of the German soldier right after that scene.
Edelweiss is a flower that only grows in the highest places in Europe, it is supposed to be the symbol of a true soldier who picks it up himself from the alpines of Europe. Coincidentally it is also the symbol of the German mountain troops Gebirsjager, but those troops were Fallschirmjager, so he just picked it up instead of belonging to a Gebirsjager unit.
Yeah. I remember the story behind the flower, I just couldn't remember when that scene was. It has been a long time since I watched Band of Brothers. I used to watch those marathons on History Channel every single time. Even if I was going to do something that day, I would just be like f off, I'm watching Band of Brothers.
