I could write an entire thesis on this subject, but I'll just list a few examples. -He refuses to return home after Namek is destroyed, leaving his wife and son alone for over a year. -He puts his son's life in danger. He tells Gohan to fight Cell in the belief that Gohan is more badass than he is and can actually win. (Okay, this actually happens, but sending Gohan to fight Cell knowing that he wasn't ready was just reckless) -After he dies, he refuses to be brought back to life supposedly because he just attracts danger to the Earth. In reality, he just wanted to train in the afterlife. He leaves his pregnant wife and son to focus on fighting. -Seven years later, he returns to Earth not to see his wife, new child, or Gohan, but to compete in a tournament. -At the end of DBZ, he leaves his family once again in order to train the reincarnation of Buu. He most likely never visited them despite knowing Instant Transmission. Even Vegeta is a better father than Goku. I know that Goku is a hero, but you cannot say that he's a good father and husband. You just can't.
