You go on a hike to a mountain and get lost in the middle of nowhere. No friends near you, you have no cellphone reception, and have no clue to where you are.You try to find a way out, but it seems like you're just going in circles so you stop to rest and eat, but you realize you have no water left, and only have 1 can of food left and that means you have to ration well if you want to survive. You have 1 flashlight, two 20 meter long rope, 1 can of food and a tent, and a compass. So if you were in this position, what would you do? And why?

First off, Why would I have gone out on a hike without bringing someone with me, or telling someone where I'd be before hand? That's just piss poor planning. Drink my own piss or boil some stream water to deal with the water problem. Then I climb a tree to see if I can see anything, like a road, trail, or a ranger station, assuming its still light out, otherwise, I set up camp and wait till morning. (optional: wait for dark, then watch for lights.) If I decide to move out, I mark my trail every few yards to ensure I don't wander in circles, and also check cell reception, just in case. Also taking regular breaks to prevent exhaustion. Food isn't a priority... you can go a while without it.

Scoff at the fact that I have Verizon so there is service everywhere. I had service on a plane from Seattle to Japan, it was awesome. (No I didn't use it during the flight.) If you are Deus Ex Machina'ing this then I could just walk down the mountain since the closest one for me is Mt. Fuji. At the base of Mt. Fuji there is a sprawling tourist center where I can get a map.

6 回复You can hardly walk in circles if you're following a compass. Unless... ...I'm lost in the North Pole.

Boy scouts has prepared me for this... first look at sun then notice which way is north walk elevated area... locate landmarks that i passed... walk out like a boss... ps ive done this before... i was just less calm about it when it actually happened

1. Going in circles in mountainous terrain would be hard to do (especially with the compass) 2. Water from the valley 3. Use can of food to bait traps (made from rope) 4. Sleep in tent 5. Slowly make my way back along the way I came in (using my well honed tracking skills)

How far in the middle of nowhere? I can just walk in a straight line until I hit a road, most places in the US are not more than 10 miles from some sort of road, even the Adirondack forest, which is the only place the scenario could happen to me... Now if this is an unrealistic scenario, then I'd just use my skills in woodcraft and live fat and happy until those annoying rescue people come along and take me away.
