It depends. Overall I think you're seeing more polarization in general human attractiveness but especially females. If you're wealthy (counting most Westerners in this) and serious about being in shape, today's woman is probably sexier than her ancestors by a significant margin, although the jump from 1930 might not be that big. Today's man probably looks better than his 1930 counterpart as well due to gym work and ubiquitous braces. (Most of male attractiveness is not in looks, though.) On the flip side, rampant obesity means that a lot of girls today are far less attractive than any given 1930s girl. Today it's more of a coin flip: hot or not. Back then it was a smoother continuum, I think.
