Hah! I was just thinking about this the other day. So here's my total and utter speculation: Bungie have always like to create their own services from the ground up (Halo 2 friends list). Although Microsoft has the SmartGlass, and Sony has their Vita service, I just wonder how much the Aerospace game development was just a front, for a bigger and better Destiny service lurking underneath. ...that, or it's just on the back burner.
