Considering how Pokemon is basically the only significant handheld franchise in gaming, it wouldn't be a smart move for them to introduce an alternative to the handheld version.

I don't see how it would effect sales negatively. The ones on the Wii U would be different than the handhold ones. If anything it would increase Pokemon sales because the people without the 3ds can also buy Pokemon games.

Because right now the only incentive to buy handhelds to the mass market is as a Pokemon machine. They don't need competition in the Pokemon machine department. Peripheral games like Pokemon Stadium wouldn't hurt, but full series titles would provide an alternative rather than an addition.
