If that's imposition in your book, fine. Seems to me that's just working through our (flawed) governance process to achieve a desired end. Unless you also think that the gay community is similarly imposing its will on the American people? You're one of the handful of people still around who says anything worth a response. A good steak will suffice. :-P

But anyway, I think that it is at least a little bit hypocritical of the NRA to say anything about Bloomberg - considering they spend millions of dollars every year on lobbying. They ahve a right to oppose what he's doing, sure - but equally he has a right to oppose what they're doing - and when it comes down to it, I'd suggest that political lobbying is less 'for the people' than the advertising campaign of Bloomberg and co. AT least this is on T.V and asks people to talk to their government representative - NRA Lobbying bypasses the people completely. I'm not saying that LaPierre's comments come from stupidity, or the fact he has a weird last name.....but both charges are probably true. Also - I find it hard to agree with a man called Wayne We'd have to go out for steak. I have beer here. You just come here, grab a beer and go. So much simpler

[/quote]actually, their most effective means of lobbying was to sent "political advisers" to a local area, to help encourage grassroots rights movements in a state, which in turn puts pressure on politicians to listen to their constituency. like new jersey, which before the 1986 FOPA, harrassed gun owners on state highways traveling to hunt or compete on neighboring states, arrested, fined them and confiscated their property, being safely locked away in their trunk unloaded and in a case.

[/quote]Those are all fair points, but I'd say that this part sort of ignores the fact that their lobbying is made possible by their 3-4 million members (as well as some nice donations from arms makers, I'm sure). And that the lobbying done is of elected representatives of the people. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big fan of lobbying, but I do see a difference between corporate lobbying purely for corporate gains, versus lobbying done on behalf of a few million people for things that they feel are in their interests. Did you just suggest that beer is an acceptable dinner? Because I'm okay with that.

Its what I'm planning on having for dinner...so yeah. I do get what you're saying with regard to the NRA speaking on behalf of their membership, but they can't really claim to speak for four million people. If you look at a Political Party, within that, although each member has a broadly similar ideology on a range of subjects, there will be disagreement - speaking for your entire membership base is impossible but for a unanimous referendum. It is also important to bare in mind that the NRA doesn't receive the majority of its [url=http://www.businessinsider.com/gun-industry-funds-nra-2013-1]funding[/url] from its membership base, which would at least imply corporate concerns. Bloombergs thing is just an advert - if you agree....an invitation to do something about it. Really rather "for the people" (keep using that coz LaPierre said it)
