I hope there will be some form of melee combat available, similar to Halo's energy swords, and it would be even more awesome if you could specialize a character in melee combat and still make it work.

Absolutely!!! I think they could really make this game stand out if they had extensive melee combat. Not necessarily something as complex as mortal combat, but can you imagine upgrading/unlocking button combinations for a melee move that knocked down an enemy or something like that? Obviously you would have to balance this perfectly to still have a fun shooter game, but the mere possibility gets me excited...
