At this point of history, we should have a solution for any collision that attempts the destruction of the earth. I mean, we have everybody in the world connected thru Internet, and we cannot destroy a -blam!-ing asteroid?

Please go educate yourself on this matter, or better yet, social matters since you already seem to have a head start there. It doesn't matter how many people are connected if only small percentage of people are actively working on this one specific issue. Not only that, but this issue isn't easy to resolve, it's actually rather difficult to point out every single rock that poses a hazard of any sort to us.
