Violent video games make you less sensitive to violence. In turn making you more likely to commit a violent act.

Thing is, I and I'm pretty sure most other people, realize that these are in-game avatars we're shooting. It's like playing airsoft or paintball, no one dies, no one gets really hurt(cept ragers, they get butthurt, lol), you get an out(respawn time). Real violence, is much, much different than video game violence. Video games may desensitize us to the IDEA of violence, but not actual violence itself.

Really? I've played the most violent of video games and seeing the site of real blood still makes me nauseous and I have never met anybody that has been desensitized to real violence by video games. I'm fairly sure you are wrong.

Or you can simply realize that videogames have become extremely popular over the past 10 years, particularly violent ones, and note that the world has not descended into chaos as a result.

You're comparing ONE city's murder rate from two different time eras, and saying that videogames are what's causing that? Not only is there absolutely NO evidence to suggest that videogames are what is causing the high murder rate in that SINGLE city, but the overall violent crime rate in the country is down in the past five years, and is really down overall. Furthermore, I linked at least one study (and could link several more) that say videogames really have no negative outcome on people. For the record, the government isn't threatening anything to do with videogames and I'm not mad at all. I'm just calling out your ignorance.

What's even more interesting is that a few have noted the most increases in those playing violent video games vs watching violent TV or movies. The reason I posted the study that I did is because it mentions the fact that a lot of researchers will conduct these experiments with one, or more, fallacies. Some will use haphazard definitions for aggresion, some will have a bias toward discovering aggresive behavior in those who partake in violent media, etc. The relevant study I brought up attempts to minimize these and finds there is no long term effect on those who would play violent games. The study you posted I would question the validity of the results. From what I gathered, they seemed to consider those whose skin response/heart rate indicated a "desensatization" toward violent films after playing violent games meant they had been desensatized. I would argue that simply because one is apathetic when viewing a violent war documentary or something doesn't mean if some guy walked in and shot somebody in the room they wouldn't care. Violence on the screen and violence in front of a person, or otherwise relevant to them, are quite different.

YOU have yet to prove anything. I provided evidence for my claims. You gave me a study about a single city in which videogames weren't mentioned at all. Do you want me to google the tons of evidence that has been collected by the government? If you dont think GTA or COD makes you less sensitive to killing than you are naive. And listen, Im not just picking on video games. Movies and T.V. also makes us less sensitive to violence. Take GTA back in time to the early 1900's. See if they'll be able to play it and kill people.
