A) How would you know this? You simply wouldn't. There is no imaginable way you could know this exact future for this baby, when saving it. This defeats any logical continuity that would have rather existed. B) Why is this directed at atheists? Wouldn't killing yourself in this fire be a sin? Wouldn't you saving this child from a life of temptation be righteous? This isn't philosophy, this is slapping random shit ontop of philosophy.

The only reason why I wouldn't do it is because I don't want to die a horrible and agonising death in order to save a baby I have never met when I don't even like babies. If I wasn't go to get burnt and hospitalised, then I would, but then it wouldn't actually be a conundrum at that point, would it? Then it would be obvious, so [i]of course[/i] you're going to die in this hypothesis... No.

There's a difference between being religiously moral and socially moral. I would save the baby since it's the right thing to do in my mind.

Why is it any different than anybody else? I could throw this logic at you: Because there is no afterlife, we should seek to conserve as much life as possible. Everybody should have the right to live. The baby is younger than me, thus he should have a chance to have at least as many years of life as me. As for people who believe in the afterlife, the baby would simply meet God in heaven, and will thus be happy.
