Precision instrument 120s are honestly more oppressive than redrix, and Id make a strong argument for division (or some high range sidearm) with RDMs being better than any special weapon right now. I dont think this is the worst meta in recent years because theres solid variety; hand cannons, sidearms, pulses, slug shotguns, and fusions are all meta, with snipers, SMGs, pellet shotguns, and prec instrument scouts being more than serviceable at a high level. I think the much bigger problem is subclass variety, with nightstalker being by far and away the meta choice with three options for S tier exotics (Lucky pants, knucklehead, and RDMs). The only thing that can compete is dawnblade with song of flame or daybreak, which is super strong for aggressive play (esp on pc with snap skating) but still not as good, and then theres a HUGE drop off to maybe twilight arsenal or thundercrash. I would say a top 20% player would be able to get to ascendant with twilight arsenal or thundercrash but I would be extremely impressed with someone getting to ascendant 0 or god forbid all the way 15000 with that, or anything else.

While PvP never has been or will be balanced some metas have definitely been worse than others. They’ve gotten close to a decent sandbox a few times(around 30th anniversary was close)

Bungie will never let Destiny exist in a balanced state. Something will always be broken, by design. It is the only way they can keep the game ‘fresh’ and feed the wheel of addiction that holds its player base.
