All I know about Yars is that it’s the fly dude on my mom’s GBA cartridge of Midway Games Classics Collection (or whatever it’s called). When I saw that there was a Yars game on the PS Store I had to do a double take. The only similarity was that there was something on the screen that looked to be Yars cuz it had wings.
Oh yeah, the Yar are a race of fly people aliens. The original is an Atari game, so you're kinda just a blob of pixels, and Recharged has this neato neon style, so while you're technically a fly man, you look more like a spaceship. The 2011 reboot reimagined Yars as being much more human-like. They're still technically fly people, but in the same way that a Neko is a cat person; mostly human, but with a few features of the respective animal (cats/flies respectively).
Since I don't actually have access to the 2011 game (sad face), I can't actually check, but iirc the only real trait that's vaguely fly like about the Yar is that they have four arms.
No idea what style Rising is going to go with. The protag seems to be a human this time around. The original & Recharged had the Yar homeworld being invaded by some other aliens called the Qotile. They're just arcade games, so this was more just flavor text than anything else, but the 2011 game took place in a timeline where the Yar actually lost the war, and were basically wiped out. I'm curious whether Rising is going to build off of that, or if it's just going to do its own thing.
