Not sure how many people remember, but back in the early days of D2 up until Forsaken, Nightfalls used to have special unique Emblems drops for achieving certain scores. Lost Sectors also had unique emblems that could drop from loot cache after defeating the sector boss. These were unique little trophy-type cosmetics that motivated and rewarded players for attempting more challenging content as well as achieving higher scores (at least for Nightfalls).
