1) I dont believe bungie is "sweeping it under the rug" as you say. They may be ineffective at dealing with it but I dont think they are hiding anything. 2) this issue affects a very small amount of players. In my belief maybe 1% of the population has ever experienced a real DDOS but I have no proof of this and will not attempt to convince anyone else this is true. I will say I believe I experienced it once when trials of osiris first launched in D1 I know this because the internet in my house went out for about 5 minutes. However bungie took action in D1 and banned many people pretty much fixing the problem. 3) true DDOS attacks are cyber terrorism and should be treated as such. It's something that affects more than just gaming.

  • I have been dosed twice in one day by the same guy. The first time I didnt call hacks or anything, I had no previous experience with it. The second time I knew what it was. If I had to guess I'd say all their accounts are still live.

  • 1% that's around 5-8 thousand people, do you think that's acceptable?

  • I would say its unavoidable but luckily negligable. It would be great if bungie found the magic code to prevent such things from happening.

  • Or they could action proof that's sent to them but nah they would rather play RDR2 than do actual work

  • The ban on naming cheating players and exposing this in the forums could very easily be considered sweeping this under the rug.

  • The name censoring occurs so you can't witch-hunt players. A lot of players could be named here because of false accusations. I've played around 3 hours of Crucible total since forsaken (mainly for ace of spades). The connection was trash enough for that. Ddossers mainly seem to occur on consoles it seems.

  • There is no witch hunt. The majority of posts I’ve seen accusing of someone ddosing has linked video proof and it all got taken down. They don’t care

  • They have to enforce the same rule on name and shaming regardless of the level of proof. If you forgo the protection of one you forgo the protection of everyone. However I am not opposed to name and shame or a good witch hunt every now and then.

  • Still seems like more of a console issue. And considering PvP is still P2P that's the only issue. But like most arena style shooters that involve PvP most have dedi servers. This one will most likely never have it and if you play this game for mostly PvP that's on you but since most of the game if not 90% of the content is pve based which it is. They will continue to sweep it under the rug.

  • Oh no, I agree that it’s a console issue (I play pc) . Still dumb how bungo won’t/ or at least admit it’s a problem. I for one only played 2 games of comp and dreaded the connection of it. My go to comp. pvp is overwatch.

  • It's because consoles don't really have a protection against ddos and most routers don't either.

  • I have no issue with #1 - that's an opinion. #2 - it affects more players that you realize. Setting up a DoS attack isn't really that hard, and modded controllers are a click away on the internet. In the 2,000+ hours I've put into D1 and D2, I've never even heard of someone being banned. And I accidentally got involved for a very short time with a group that was cheating. Soon as I realized it, I was out. #3 - sure, it can be a wider problem. But trying to conflate a Script Kiddie who's boosting their s**t self-esteem by executing some Python code is very different than denying large-scale, multiple-user services. And the OP's point - that you so eloquently declined to entertain - is that Bungie is not doing anything about it. Why put the reporting feature into the game? They don't intend - and have never intended - to action any reports.

#2 I never said it was "hard" per say. I just dont believe the kind of person who would go out of their way to get a modded controller or set it up in some other way (or even to go to a further extreme connect their PC and console in any way through software) is very common. Let alone I dont believe that mindset or moral compass that allows someone to cheat in such a way is all that common either. #3 sure it's a different scale but the same weapon. Similar to comparing a real terrorist using a truck bomb vs a pipe bomb And I would think that bungie is banning people or has banned people in the past. It's been years but I remember a TWAB even listing the amount of people they banned after the first ToO. They just are not vocal about it. Heck I remember hearing they banned people for just quitting before the match thus saving their team from a loss while giving the opponents a free win or something along those lines. Whether the report took is functional or not I can't say.
