Replying to your edit; You can’t criticize a democracy, and when told that it isn’t actually a democracy say that it misses the point. Your point was that it’s not a functional democracy, and you’re right!
It wasn’t meant to be a democracy. Our government is running as intended; the goal of the founding fathers was to ensure equal representation, thus the electoral college was born. This way, the major cities like Hollywood and New York that have populations bigger than states can’t overrule the people of the smaller/less populated states

Did Jefferson intend for international oil companies to fund the campaign of legislators, and to draft laws for those legislators to introduce into the house, and to use their campaign donation money as leverage over those politicians? Was that part of Jefferson’s agricultural society?

Well, given that large oil refineries weren’t around until the late 1800’s I’d say no, no he didn’t. But, unforeseen circumstances were accounted for by allowing laws to be added, changed and removed to best suit the nation in the future. Because of that ability, it’s now illegal for federal candidates to accept foreign donations.
