There is a free trial up to level 35 on all "jobs" without a time limit anymore. Play it but do know that the start of the game feels really slow. It only picks up around level 52+ when you start getting more off GCDs and start working with your job gauges. There is a metric ton of things to do in the game, and honestly it will likely take your first month of hard grinding to finish the MSQ if you push hard if you get Stormblood, which is one of the best expansions to date. Don't worry too much about the monthly sub, the game is designed for it to be okay to take breaks from the game and comeback after large patches, like 4.2. They even have free login periods sprinkled in here and there. Your first month is free when you purchase the game.

If you have never played before and are on PS4 they have a free trial up to lvl 35. I heard it’s only a month trial but idk how true that is. I’m guessing PC may have something similar.

It's good. And I believe it is worth the monthly payment. However, I realize that that is a large issue for some. So I suggest you try the free trial, you can play as long as you want to until level 35 on all classes.
