I can tell you for AP Calculus and AP Psychology in 2014 I scored 4 on both. I actually would've done better on Psychology but our teacher didn't want to talk about the sexual stuff in psych so the several questions asking about it had us confused.
During my AP Calculus it was pouring rain and the roof started leaking. Good thing I wasn't near the leaks.
Though when i finished i felt more confident on my Psych than Calculus.
I took four AP exams this semester: AP U.S. History, AP Physics C, AP Calculus AB, and AP English Language and Composition.
It's so weird to hear how the classes are offered at such different grade levels between our schools. APUSH is taken by basically half of the sophomore class, and that's it. Physics C isn't offered at our school because we barely have enough every year for Physics A or B. Calc is a Junior or Senior class depending on how advanced you are (Senior is skipping one grade of math, Junior is skipping two), and Lang is only Senior.

As for AP Physics, we have either AP Physics 1 or AP Physics C, AP Calculus can be taken in a Junior or Senior year, and AP English Lang. & Comp. is taken in Junior year before AP English Lit. in Senior year.

I would have jumped into AP U.S history but the class had lots of projects, way too many for my taste. Plus, the class wouldn't have more than 5 people most of the time, was not a popular AP class. As for AP English, they'd run the school paper and would also be asked to check lower English class work. That was too much for me as well.

Where I'm at, APUSH is actually a pretty popular class; there's two teachers that teach it with four AP periods each. It's the same with AP English Language and Composition. I agree with you that it's a shit-ton of work, but it was well worth it.
