Oh the fact that I had to spend $40 to get cosmetic armor which look -blam!-ing amazing on my warlock btw.

It's perfectly acceptable from an English point-of-view to say 'I had to invest this amount in order to get my desired object/outcome'. It's a less long-winded way of saying 'I decided to buy dawning treasures in order to get the full set of armour. I had to spend $40 buying dawning treasures in order to get the fullset'.
