360 doesn't have any connections to the app anymore. Only current gen consoles. So until you Upgrade, you're stuck transferring items between characters the old way.

I don't know how to upgrade or send stuff from my old character to my new one. They're different emails. Different Microsoft accounts. But when I got the companion app, I paired my new MS account with my old Destiny character somehow. And now I can't unpair them.
