As much as I enjoyed it, I was actually a bit disappointed to be honest... admittedly it did do what I thought it wouldn't...
[spoiler]kill off all our heroes despite merch needing to be sold and such...[/spoiler]
But with the 2 main theories about the ending, it just kinda ruined it a little for me...
We could have had either of 2 epic endings and yet just got that...
We could have had Jin end up as darth vaders wingman at the battle of the Death Star and then sacrifice herself to save Luke by crashing herself into vaders tie fighter (cuz come on, Han only shot one tie fighter and then the other just randomly flipped out, out of nowhere...)
Or we could have had each character get captured by Vader and turned to the dark side to become the knights of Ren... that would have been so awesome and yet here we are...

Nope ending was spot on. 1. Film was based around that 'many bothons died getting the death star plans' line. 2. It was a mature star wars movie. They sacrificed themselves for the greater good it was the theme of the whole movie.

That is true yes, and a darker Star Wars film is what we needed... I only wish I could have seen one of the original cuts before it got a little disneyified... I'm just saying that I loved those two theories and with each of our heroes just dying one by one it kinda just seemed a bit of a cop out when something amazing could have been done with them... [spoiler]plus if they'd been captured by Vader then the alliance would likely imagine they died anyways. It'd also give way for a seriously dark reveal later on where the leaders of the rebels find out that 5 of the most vicious fighters for the sith were the rebels that lead the attack to gain the plans for the Death Star... [/spoiler]

Im curious aswell what they had to change. Dint neccessarily think they had to made it softer. It was a mature star wars movie, but the degree was just about right that it didnt feel too weird compared to the other movies. Keep in mind 4,5,6 and 7 are chronogically after rogue one. If the characters had been kept alive itd be weird to not see them anymore in the following movies.

It was supposed to be quite a bit darker (originally gonna be a somewhat gritty war film) but yeah Disney forced things to be made lighter so it's more likely appeal to a wider audience... And yeah it would have been very weird if they lived but if they joined he dark side then it would have been considered dying in the eyes of the rebels... who would want to talk about the possibility that the people who helped save thousands to millions of lives and then ended up on the side they were supposed to defeat... after all, obi wan tells like his father was killed by darth Vader rather than saying the truth...

Im super stoked on what they changed. As far as ive seen the ending shouldve been completely different. There is video footage where jyn is running at the beach with the plans. Seems like they survived in the original cut. Read also that they had to change the ending in order to make the transition for the 4th (may it be with you) movie smoother

I think I'll probably have to watch it at least once more to enjoy it more cuz it's likely there were a few Easter eggs I missed and as much as I was disappointed that neither of the theories were true, I was very happy with it. It was simply because I had built up the plausibility of the theory endings that I had kinda let myself down with it... Would have perhaps liked to see a little more of darth Vader but what we did see was awesome. There'll probably be an extended cut released at some point and I'll likely get it
