Time to build my atheist Trump wall of text
NOTE: I'm adding to this as I go, so keep that in mind, nothings final.
1. Science is the honest (debatebly) pursuit of knowledge and understanding, trying to figure out how everything works.
2. Religion is similar to Science in the way that it attempts to answer the same / if not similar questions to Science.
so in this respect they're similar, I'll give you that
3. Religion is based off of belief and faith in the person(s) that claims the religion is true. You cannot prove any of religions claims are true (I.e god, the devil, creationism etc).
4. Science is based of logic, theories, testing, retesting, and even more retesting. It's "teachings" are not set in stone and are constantly being improved and replaced. Religion does not do this.
5. How can you call science a religion? Because scientists are in lab coats, therefore they're equivalent to priests? Most religions teachings are based off writings that are 100s, if not 1000s of years old. They are not testable, therefore there isn't concrete evidence to prove whether religion is true.
6. Everything that science claims is fact, can be tested and proven, is there anything that religion states, that can be logically proven?
More incoming in the following days...
Nice, you have earned yourself a medal! Do you think it is possible for religion and science to coexist? I for one see it as so: science with proof > religion with a book, however I see some ways they can exist together, so long as you know how to accept being wrong (a common part of science that diehard religion christians haven't learned), I see that neither science nor religion can truly answer the question "is there a god?" I also don't believe the tales from an over 2000 year old book, though there are SOME good underlying principles, aside from all the twisted stuff their society did. However what if there is a god? No matter how corrupt the book, no matter how convinced some people are, it is still a possibility, albeit a far fetched one, so I fall somewhere in between religion and science, leaning more towards science as I use a scientists base principle to determine truth, it's really just logic: "if there is undeniable factual evidence that I am wrong, I must be wrong" so if a scientific discovery contradicts a religious text, obviously I'm listening to the scientific discovery with its facts. I consider myself a loose Christian, sure I follow some of their stuff but I hate church, I hate the idea of somebody's who I hardly know influencing my outlook on something like that without any real factual proof, also I see so many Christians trying to get to "heaven" and that's why they're nice, why can't people just be nice to help preserve the world? Rant over
Firstly, wow thanks for the massive reply.
Yeah I think that they could coexist. As in science can explain what we can understand and test, and religions explains (in different ways) what we can't understand and test. If religious and scientific people could get along the world would be a better place and I wouldn't be wasting my very finite life
unless you're Buddhist
debating on bungies off topic forum.
And sorry OP but I think you're just trying to provoke a response, maybe because you're attention seeking? Maybe you're just really strong in your "belief", hey I get that.
As long as you respect my beliefs i respect yours, and we can all be happy.
