I don't think the Vault of Glass was anything to do with the Vanguard Dare. The Dare was, that if the Hunter Vanguard died in battle, then the one who accepted the Dare would have to become the Vanguard. Thus, Cayde accepted the Dare and became Vanguard after Andal died.
