Also: when you have a Pokémon that has 2 evolutions instead of just 1, wait to evolve them until you have enough candy (125 usually) to do both evolutions.
This will ensure you have the strongest possible Pokémon.
E.g. say I have a cp 100 Oddish and 25 Oddish candy. I can evolve that Oddish to a gloom (about 200 cp i think) which will take 100 candidate to evolve to vileplume. During the time I am stocking up candy, I run across a cp 300 Oddish. I can have a much stronger gloom and vileplume if I evolve this Oddish instead, but I have been set back 25 Oddish candy instead of needing 125 instead of 96 more after catching the 300 cp oddish.
