Convince me to watch it, I'm almost done my current animu

Its a heart rending story about a hopeless hero who wants to save everyone but fears the monster he could become and another hero who will use anyone to accomplish his goals [spoiler]until the first hero -blam!-s it up in the first ep[/spoiler] the setting is future based with japan being governed by a larger faction as a disease ravages the country and the larger faction sees japan as a third world country full of sub humans. There is mechs and lots of good plot as well as inner struggles and amazing character progression as the hero grapples with morality.

It shares some near characteristics with Code Geass, and I like the setting. I'll probably check it out. I have been on break from action animes while I work on romances.
