Many of the pages are short, looping images and some are entirely interactive, making you play "the game" in order to advance the story. To survive and save their species, the kids must win the game in the face of time shenanigans, meddling outsiders, their own failings and a short time frame. I really like Homestuck, but it is not for everyone.
