You're making the assumption that everyone is approaching the topic logically. I would say this is largely projection. Look at the general opinion expressed on the topic. People want to protect their advantage. The people defending the current meta are made up primarily of those who defended the last meta. When some other strategy is pushed into the limelight they'll "adapt", switch their strategy to whatever grants the greatest advantage, then defend that when people begin to take issue with it. Even if they won't admit it, to even themselves in some cases, a large portion of the playerbase doesn't actually want a level playing field.
