The digital upgrade program (which was what allowed people to transfer content from last gen to current gen) was always marketed as year one material only. It expressly listed the original destiny (if purchased digitially before Jan 15 2015) expansion 1 and expansion 2 would be eligible for upgrade to next gen. https://www.destinythegame.com/digital-upgrade The taken king was the start of year 2 and was the cut off for the promotion. Whether it was digital or physical made no difference.
