Actually he was right in calling it a dos attack for the question he was asking. Dos attacks use a single internet to either exploit a software vulnerability or flood a target with fake requests. Ddos attacks are similar to dos attacks but use multiple Internet connections (typically via a zombie net), that's why the first d stands for distributed. Dos and Ddos attacks are not limited to servers, if someone identifies your ip address they can flood your network with requests which would likely kick you off line. As for the op's question I don't have the answer, but his question is a valid one.
