I think I understand what he or she means. There are people who are naturally likable who demand respect naturally, and people tend to flock to such people looking to befriend or get to know them better or, very often, unwittingly searching for validation from this person who seems to have the most important opinion. However, if that person is to be honest with himself and others, he will undoubtedly hurt many people who try to get too close to him. It's terrible to hurt so many people, but they're always persistent to get closer to you, and it just doesn't make any sense.
