I'm definitely getting Final Fantasy. Is Persona a game that I would like to play the previous installments first or does it not matter?

Persona series been out for a while by a company called Atlus. I read Persona 4: Golden can introduce you to the series. It's popular to a lot of people now since FFXIII disappointed a lot of JRPGs fans. I don't understand how one game years ago made people not trust future games, but FFXV seems worth it.
