The timed events provide a change of pace an opportunity for new/different gear. Less options for buying not new story content/progression boosts. Less drip feed, more bulk content up front. With the amount of time I play I don't think I'll tire of the Crucible. Year 2 could be nicer if it was both A & B/ paid DLC and timed events supported by micro transactions. Walk that line.
