So this week for Game Design class we have to play World of Warcraft. In its 10+ years of existence this is the first time I've ever played this game. And you know what? It's honestly not that impressive. Sure I'm only a level 9 Orc Warrior and there is a lot of stuff I won't get to see since I'm playing the trial that lets you reach level 20. Still, I've seen nothing in this game that I can't get from Star Wars: The Old Republic, Guild Wars, or one of the many free to play MMOs.

Problem is. Free to play MMOs rarely add substantial amounts of content in updates. And updates are few and far between. WoW hasn't been getting any patches lately, or in a timely manner. But it's still good. Put it this way. Look at FFXIV. It's the number one MMO now by subscribers. Besides WoW. They patch it every 3 months. Just one of those patches has more content than TDB and HoW combined. WoW has a story. And tons of lore. But it doesn't restrict you and try to be a single player MMO. Look at Star Wars. It's a good game. And has a good story. With full voice acting. But it lacks much content besides the substantial story. There's a reason it went free to play. As for graphics. It's old. If you went to one of the newer expansion areas they'd look quite a bit better. And again. As others said. You're Level 9. It's all about the end game. It would take you 100s of hours to even begin doing most of the content.

由SG GEARD编辑: 10/24/2015 3:13:49 AMA little after Wrath. I pulled away from that game slowly. Too much caca and bs, were put in when Cata hit. Game just really started to feed the casuals, towards the end point of wrath. Burning crusades was best.

1 回复You're a bit late to the party pal. It peaked 2007-08. Not to mention peoples feels from coming off of Warcraft 3 + Frozen Throne.

由Ungod编辑: 10/21/2015 9:45:03 PMYes, you can get all the things wow offers in other games. But WoW was the first game to perfect that formula. That's why it is/was so great. By today's standards yeah its pretty damn mediocre. But you need to compare it to games like eq1 or UO to see why it was so revolutionary. Swtor is almost a cut and paste copy of wow...

It's not as good as before but you also don't experience the full game. There is much more to the game than you realize (i played the beta as a kid when my dad had it and he bought it for me when it came out). 19 now and still love wow

9 回复You really cannot judge a mmo until you play the endgame though. There is a reason WoW is still around and the most populated mmo, and that is the endgame content.

It's like playing a retro nouveau game in a non-ironic way. The graphics need some work, the quests are vastly improved from pre-cataclysm, but the game failed to hold my interest this past expansion. As some said, it's all about the endgame and honestly, I never made it to the endgame this time around. The same thing happened to me in Cata. Though I had some external factors gumming up the works for me (I was in the army at the time). It takes a lot of commitment to really enjoy the game... But it also turns into a second job and I really haven't had the time for that lately.
