I work for an agreed upon wage. If I work really hard I get paid more. If I went up to my boss and asked for a raise and told him I'd start showing improvement some time before next year I'd be laughed at and possibly fired. FOR GOOD REASON BECAUSE THAT WOULD BE STUPID.
