Don't worry, his progress will be saved. Characters are stored on bungie's servers. Same thing with Playstation Keep in mind characters from xbox can't be used on a Playstation (and vice versa) Also unless he has a digital copy of destiny, and bought it before January 15th of 2015, he would have to buy an Xbox one version of destiny as xbox compatibility isn't fully out yet.
