Because you shouldn't be discriminated against for your race/gender/sexuality. If someone's insulting a female gamer for some arbitrary reason that isn't about her gender then I'm fine with that, but that's hardly ever the case.

Most "girl gamers", which why do you need to add girl to gamer you are just a gamer, expect to be respected even when they do extremely poorly. In what has been a meritocracy culture since its start that just doesn't fly. And when they get called out they want to use being a female as being protected and above reproach.
