I'm also not going to take a stance on whether it is fake or not, but the part I found freaking hilarious was the time stamp. The most common picture floating around was a screenshot of a Facebook post that included a time stamp at the top, which was the time the screenshot was taken. But everyone and their brother used that as proof it was a fake..."xur doesn't come at 55 minutes past the hour", or "that's not what time the reset happens". And suddenly everyone is an expert in photo analysis, using a website that states it's hard to determine if a photo that has been shared numerous times has been tampered with.
I don't know if some of these people are so hopelessly addicted to Bungie / Destiny that they absolutely refuse to believe anything that may make them look bad... or if a handful of Bungie employees have generated these accounts to defend themselves from the shadows
