And honestly everyone is so quick to improv gokus fights since tthis argument broke out but there's a shit ton of improv that could take place in the vault also soley based on the lore. What's to say atheon couldn't send copies of himself back to the past further upgrade himself for the fight? Plus there's the whole teleporting to the past/future thing. If vegeta is maining the fusion and someone slapped bulma he'd go straight for the kill as soon as he stepped out but if not, they're gonna kill time trying to talk to the enemy be it shit talking or general questioning followed by unnecessary gasping til atheon teleports them.
