If you feel like you have some form of social anxiety that is preventing you from taking initiative and talking to people I suggest a psychiatrist or some form of therapy. I had a mate that was in your position, and I came flat out and told him that he needed to see someone professional about his predicament and in a few weeks it really helped him to get started.
