You would be correct in that assumption. This is a hexing staff that specializes in dark fog, it will usually poison someone in one cast.

Since this staff says it scales depending on the lower of the two (INT and Faith), I'm trying to figure out what would be an appropriate level for Faith. Probably will do what George Foman suggested and up it to 30.

I just noticed I was confused when looking at the staffs description last night. I was confusing the Darkness Scaling (Hex) for Sorcery. I'll stick to leveling purely INT now, since it reaches an S Rank in Sorcery at some point.

Pilgrims spontoon (spear) can be pretty handy for a sorcerer build in combination with a 100% physical damage negating shield. The staff of wisdom is the highest intelligence rating I believe though. There's also a sword called the blue flame that can be used to cast spells and be used as a sword.
