Explain which is better and why
Basically socialism is communism but the economy belongs to the people, not the government.
If you vote you have to post, house rules. Unless you don't want to see what the outcome is, which seems counter intuitive since you decided to vote in the first place.

由U6757109编辑: 2/19/2015 2:55:17 PMThe best American presidents in history were Socialists: [Republican] Dwight D. Eisenhower [Republican] Teddy Roosevelt [Democrat] Franklin D. Roosevelt Republican Teddy Roosevelt dismantled 44 monopolistic businesses in his lifetime; talk about Socialism. Dwight D. Eisenhower had the highest marginal tax rate in history under his terms (91%). Imagine if Obama raised it that high! And it's funny because Neo-Cons think Obama is a Socialist lol.

Communism is the extreme form of socialism so naturally socialism is better. Just how Liberalism is better than Anarchy. And you're way off with the difference between socialism and communism! There are plenty of differences as mentioned in the link above. The main one being this:
From each according to his ability, to each according to his deeds (socialism). From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs (communism).
2 回复Communism is the perfect form of government however it only works for perfect people. Since there are no perfect people it has never worked and never will work on this earth.

1 回复由Nobody编辑: 2/19/2015 3:33:34 PMSocialism is a form of economy, not a form of government. There has never been a true socialist economy and to be honest there probably never will be... because it will never work. Same goes for Communism. Lots of people in this thread failed their social science classes I see.

2 回复Socialism is a more mild version of Communism with both being on the Left to Far Left respectively. However I find Communism to be too extreme since it usually means total government control while Socialism has strong albeit not total government control over the people. In Socialist countries you usually will find big government and high taxes but with free benefits like education, vacation time, health care etc. Plus wealth is distributed so everyone has a pretty similar paycheck. In Communist countries like China, North Korea, 20th century Romania and Soviet Russia, wealth is often distributed equally with high poverty rates, few freedoms and strict laws. If you pay attention to Communist countries you'll often notice they have a very Totalitarian style government. In my opinion, a government that's too far to the left or right usually doesn't work.

I mean, neither is capitalism. It just so happens, however, that capitalism is basically the best to meet the production levels required to sustain a large population while utilizing human labor. Even if that means thousands of chinese children go starved and exhausted to make us our nike shoes.

3 回复
Basically socialism is communism but the economy belongs to the people, not the government.
That is a horrible and inaccurate definition of both terms. Socialism is a "large" amount of government regulations and control towards larger businesses and products in an attempt to support the middle class. In communism, there are no classes and land is owned by the community as oppose to individuals or the government. In a sense, communism is a more extreme version of socialism. Whether or not socialism is an extreme is up to debate. Communism won't work due to human nature and socialism works in some cases but it really depends. Besides, I always thought it is healthiest for a country to be as close to the center as possible.

8 回复Socialism works, within limits. I mean, the core principal is sound. Resolves the wealth gap, etc. I'm mostly for integrating it into other economic forms, to supplant the parts that hurt others.
