I feel like the Devils Lair was more of a "hold down the fort and be swarm. Oh look, you survive. Okay move on to the next area to be swarm." I do agree with you a tad bit on the arena type area because you are stuck in an area for a timing being, but it feels more like your interrupting a gang war and your just passing through and you got an asshole blocking your way, type scenario. If you think about, Every FPS is an arena. Your stuck in an area and the only way to move on is to kill everybody else. People don't think all FPS as an arena because we think of an arena as a small, enclosed space. What makes us think otherwise is the mission. In devils lair, your main purpose is to kill the leader, retrieved something, or even just get to the other side. During the video that was shown, one of the side objective is to repel all attackers until the traps are deactivated. If it makes you feel better, Play the arena in Darksider 2. Because that is a straight up Arena type battle. Where you kill certain amount of people in an open field and be awarded. While you got some "pretend" audience cheering in the bleachers.

  • I like what you said here bud. Very well put and I agree you for the most part. What you say about every FPS being an arena type thing I agree with totally, but Bungie is cultivating this notion that this isn't the typical FPS and openness and stuff like that. The video made it seem almost like a horde type thing with a boss at the end. I just don't want the whole game to be like that. And I know using the word arena is not totally right, but you know what I mean. Dark spiders 2 definitely had a true arena mode. With all this said though, I'm still very excited about this game and even if all it is is a series of things like that (which I don't think it will be) I will still be playing a lot! Great response dude. Thanks for getting back to me on it.

  • No problem and you misspelled Darksider. In all honesty, strike mission are all going to be the same just because its the typical Left 4 Dead where they start swarming the players at a fix rate. Hopefully awards and small objective will spice things up. But don't forget, the strike mission is basically a side quest. The real task will be regaining all the territories back from these alien invaders. What makes me excited about this game , is that its like Halo but at the same time not. Because you got multiple race fighting each other and your just a lone wolf plus a few companion (Forerunners vs flood vs covenant and they all hate master chief and the weak human race at one point in time). What makes it not like Halo is that you got new elements that tells the audience "Hey, we are gonna be awesome like Halo, but we gonna make our own mark." So far the traveling is going to feel like a Mass Effect where you travel to one place without any problems. The FPS is going to feel like Halo. Wondering around a place is going to feel like Fable ( I was gonna compare it to Fallout it but most likely it won't have a crap ton of stuff that are useless unless you pawned it.) and the player are freely moved about like Fallout where you can ignore a mission or hold off on it and still move on. However all these are based on videos that have shown. I do not know if its going to interact with people in an RPG way or if its going to be where you are out of middle of nowhere and you receive mission through a device. But I do agree with you about how I am going to enjoy this game no matter what.

  • Yeah, ye olde Auto correct. Lol I like what you said again about it being a kind of side quest. That's interesting because the Steikes are like "mini raids" as I understand it and the Raids are near endgame content. I also think you are spot on about the way traveling might feel like Mass Effect when you go to a sandbox type area and then start from there only it's gonna be way bigger than ME. I also like what a few others have said, it might be that the Strikes are like dungeons in MMOs. Fun will be had though, of that I'm sure.

You bring up an interesting point of where the raids could be a dungeon type. However, the devils lair looks like you have a room that connects to another room and that room is connected to a room where the awards is. But I can see the entire game as a dungeon because the moon looks like it has a massive catacombs under the surface and the vex main base looks like a giant maze.

  • True. It very well could be and it should be fun no matter what. I just wanna be able to drink in as much of the world as possible and find things that are hidden that maybe a lot of people won't find initially. I need some free roam. Not a ton, but enough.
