I think comparing destiny to defiance is dumb. Im guessing the weapons in defiance don't really scale with leveling, or the sole thing that makes weapons in defiance better is the amount of damage that it can do. Weapons in destiny are much different. Exotics are exotics because of the abilities they give. Invisible while zoomed in, increase health regeneration speed, being able to pick up ammo by shooting it, deploying entries at the site of explosion. All primary weapons will have similar kill times, snipers will similar, etc. It won't be like this common sniper won't kill in 2 hits. The differences will be miniscule, or leveling up a common will make those differences miniscule. A common rocket launcher will still kill an enemy in one hit, a more rare rocket launcher might have a bigger area of splash damage, or a bigger clip or something along those lines. That is my guess. So yes, someone with a exotic will be more (for lack of better words) powerful, but someone with a common weapon will still be able to win encounters.

  • No, I'm fairly certain that just like Borderlands the better weapons do more bullet damage as well. With the amount of guns they are talking about it would be difficult if not impossible to come up with enough different weapon abilities to make it worth hunting them all down. Besides, I'm sure the matchmaking system will help by setting you up with people of comparable level. The last bit is just speculation, but it makes sense.

  • We really don't know how many unique weapons there are. Damage is only one variable. Fire rate, clip size, zoom, type of scope, recoil, damage effects, range, bullet spread, etc. Those are just some of the variables for the GUNS. Guns could also do different things to different non-gun variables, like melee damage or melee speed... perhaps even things like general speed, jump height, health regeneration speed. There could be a common weapon that has 1000 different variations.

  • Damage will be more at higher levels. Almost Guaranteed. If I get a weapon that has a good scope/sight and a good clip size or whatever in the beginning, whats my incentive to go to a different gun? That would mean guns you get in the very beginning of the game have the potential to be just as good as end game guns and guns earned in raids and the like. If the only incentive is a different combination of of attachments that are already available, who cares? That's pretty boring. That's one of the many thing that sucked about Defiance. None of the weapons had any real damage edge over the others. You very well may be right that damage overall will be the same no matter what the level of the weapon, but that will be very disappointing. If that's the case it's likely I will not do much more than play through the campaign. There would be no point to doing more than that.

  • Why wouldn't there be a point to playing more than just campaign? The weapons would get better, just not in the obvious way of "I can kill you in less shots now". Maybe they'll scale things from PvE to PvP. But I doubt it. And you wouldn't find a great weapon like that right off the bat, you'd have to level it up. Make it great. Im sure a common weapon leveled up will be competent against harder foes.

  • They will need to do more damage per bullet simply because our armor is going to get stronger as we level up and find better armor. That means that if the guns damage is not going to get any better we are going to spend all day trying to kill one guy. There would be no point in playing more than the campaign because as I have already said to me it will be boring. part of the fun and going and collecting all this loot is to gain some type of advantage in the PVP as well as the PVE. Higher level weapons need to have greater damage output. The type of differences you are talking about would mean almost nothing in game. It's exactly the kind of thing they did in Defiance. If that sounds fun to you then I'm happy for you. However I know that I will get bored with that. Which is disappointing since it is the one game I am looking forward to more than any other.

  • The advantages of being able to snipe to pick up ammo, being invisible while zoomed in, faster health regeneration... those are huge PvP advantages. Just because you can't kill noobs in one hit with every single weapon doesn't mean you don't have the advantage over them. This game is suppose to be accessible, and I'm guessing bungie wants the game to be somewhat balanced. So either you're right and they're going to re-balance things for PvP from PvE or I'm right and common weapons will be similar to rarer weapons, in that they'll both have similar killtimes, and the advantages of a rarer weapon will be miniscule in terms of damage, but great in other areas like accuracy, and in terms of exotics... they give massive special bonuses like being invisible while zoomed in.

  • Being invisible while zoomed in is such an insanely overpowered ability; it makes me even less interested in laying the PVP. You can't really balance that. Either it's completely op or they make another ability specifically to counter it and then your only choices are to have have one of those two abilities. There is still the fact that the armor gets stronger as you progress through the game. Again, if the bullets don't do more damage with higher level guns you're still going to have a problem getting through the armor. And then I'm going to be stuck getting hit by potshots from some invisible asshole until he eventually kills me.

  • Not to mention that defiance is a shit game to begin with. I'm not particularly worried about Destiny being like Defiance.

    For me, games like Defiance and Warframe are great examples of what [i]not[/i] to do when creating a shooter RPG.... and I think Bungie has been paying close attention. I don't expect Destiny to have the same pitfalls.
