We've come to a point where we're incredibly advanced. Ideas can be transmitted in seconds, people on opposite sides of the Earth can talk face-to-face, and millions of people can be linked together through television. Enough is enough. We have enough technology. We have enough entertainment.
I see many people on this site calling for "space exploration" and "intergalactic colonies" and all that other bullshit. I say no. We need to focus on the planet that was meant for us - Earth. Could we terraform other planets to meet our needs? Maybe. Should we? Hell no. The one branch of science that continues to be useful is medicine. Viruses evolve and so should our remedies. Other than that, it's pointless and filled with hubris.
There are people, sick and starving, on the streets because of our shitty economic system. We could be helping them, but instead we need to "explore the stars" and "expand humanity's reach." We can't expand humanity's reach if we lose our humanity in the process.
"Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should."

1 回覆Incredibly advanced huh? I think you're gravely mistaken kid. We still use fossil fuels to produce our energy, we still use personal vehicles for 95% of our travel,

9 回覆I agree that medical science should be very important. But there are other sciences that we rely on as well. Like clean energy and high-speed transportation. But indeed, there are many things that should be saved for later, such as space travel. Why leave? We need to try and save our planet.

2 回覆If we terraform another planet we can drop the sick and starving off there. Then no more sick and starving people on earth. Think different, bro.

1 回覆由the panzie man編輯: 7/13/2013 6:49:00 PMor maybe we should just try to maintain a smaller population overall and continue scientific endeavors that have a higher benefit because they serve fewer people. er, I mean, continue our current rate of scientific development and be able to spread it through the much less packed population.
