Destiny feels isolated and lonely because that's who they have constantly catered to for several years now. The anti-social solo players. They never make significant changes to the clan system. It's been the same dead broken pos for 10 years now. Solo players complained about having to find people to play dungeons and raids with to get the best gear, so they add in systems that further allow solo players to get some of the most powerful gear that used to force people out of their comfort zones and interact with the community. Also the excuse of "oh well lfg is toxic" is a copout. In my experience I would say maybe 5 percent is toxic. I have hundreds of sherpas, messaged randos in the tower or on a planet to see if they wanted to do a raid or dungeon and i can count on one hand how many bad experiences I've had. It's randos being anti-social and taking the slightest bit of criticism as toxicity. It's partly killed raid gear off and the value of raiding when you can get god rolls that -blam!- all over raid weapons from some crap seasonal mission or iron banner. My best friends to this day I met back in my first D1 VoG run. I was looking for people to play vog with because I wanted to hit max level and the gear was cool. So I found a group of other new players and 1 sherpa willing to deal with us. I still have lunch and shoot the -blam!- regularly with alot of that original fireteam to this day.

  •
Destiny feels isolated and lonely because that's who they have constantly catered to for several years now. The anti-social solo players.
I agree with it partially here. Destiny 1 is designed to encourage playing as a group in the endgame. But it also DOESN'T exclude people that want to play Solo. Don't even get me started on how people found ways time and time again to solo Nightfalls and Raids.... Or even go Flawless solo in Trials back when it was a thing... The problem is, Destiny 2 stopped doing that. You have either "group content" that can only be played as a group (looking at the Final Shape 2-player exo mission specifically) or are only fully rewarding when playing solo (looking at you, Solo Lost Sectors being the only source for new exotics for a VERY long time....) The Problem is, Bungie stopped making it a choice. It's either one or the other. But not a "play your own way" really anymore.

  • I utterly disagree. They need to cater far more for solo players and dial the difficulty down a little for end game stuff. If you want a challenge go and get a doctorate in applied mathematics. Sure there are/were clans dedicated to high end team stuff but there were many more below that level.

I went to school for civil engineering. Meh. I'm not cut out for desk work as it turns out. It sucks. I'm a hands on person. But i digress Its called aspirational content for a reason. Its meant for players to aspire to, to conquer greater challenges and reach greater heights and be rewarded for such an accomplishment. If you want braindead easy content go do patrols and the crappy seasonal stuff. But doing braindead content with no challenge should reward the player with such a reward equal to the challenge. What's awful are the solo players that don't even try because they are so anti-social that using the free mic that Playstation PUTS IN YOUR CONTROLLER is too uncomfortable for them so they never leave their little bubble. If I can sherpa 5 children through a raid, the anti-social solo players can get off their dead horse and learn to talk to people once in a blue moon.

Not anti social and as for aspirational… it’s a bloody game. I’ve been in clans, mostly very good ones… we even had a few thousand in one when it was allowed. All of them went the same way. The top few raided and some guys helped lesser mortals out, the majority gradually stopped raiding because they weren’t in the ‘main group’ and felt sidelined or it was just too hard to keep up or quite simply they felt like they were a burden. These guys kept doing the small things and enjoyed the mindless stuff or the quick dip into trials for a laugh then a few nightfalls etc. All of the clans withered and died eventually, perhaps if the reasons for clan erosion was looked at forensically Bungie could make a more successful model?

  • If it's just a "bloody game" then why are you so passionate about it? Because it's more than that and you fundamentally understand that. Dont try to diminish what it is just because you dislike my take. Second, the clan system is an utter sham in this game and a pitiful excuse for a clan system. Ive been in clans since original starcraft days in the 90s when we had to code bots to act as clan managers because there was no official clan support and what we had with fake CD keys and bots was better than the crap bungie calls a "clan". All clans are, in D2 is a crap system that just acts as a funnel for elites to find their raid groups. I would never recommend doing anything revolving clans in this damn game unless it'sjust for you and some friends. If you want to raid or do dungeons, sherpas have a whole community on reddit and in discord to happily teach players. Until recently(for obvious destiny reasons) several of the groups I taught how to raid, stuck together and kept raiding, or moved around and kept learning. One of the ones went on to shoot for completion leaderboards of some raids with hundreds upon hundred under her belt. One of the other groups banded together to split the cost to get the last of their group a PS5 so she could keep playing when her ps4 broke. Also youre looking at raiders as godlike beings because of your own perceptions of raiding. I'm a sherpa. I have hundreds of sherpas under my belt. I took a team of 5 children through a raid and taught them the mechanics so they could continue at their own pace and they loved it. If a group of kids have the cajones to reach out to me to learn how to raid, then maybe people should look inward at their own notions of what raiding and what it means to do aspirational content and stop trying to steal that away because they dont have what it takes, when literal children do. The vast majority of the gaming community lives on aspirational gaming. Its why the souls games are so popular. Because each boss fight means you accomplished something great. Thats what raiding is.
