We can technically run Expert instead of Master, or Master instead of Grandmaster, but that leaves the loot game on the floor. The point of progressing is to eventually get Tier 4 and 5 loot, but lower tier activities, lower Light Level activities, mostly drop trash gear. Doing lower tier Ops feels like stepping off the treadmill and giving up the chance at good carrots, which can feel as bad or worse than bouncing off harder content. As you say, it's a matter of balancing rewards, giving players of all skill levels a rewarding experience, I feel like the old system gave us a better balance for that. Maybe Tiered gear was a mistake.

  • It was a mistake. I'll take a 100٪ craftable tier 2 weapon over the mindless grind for the same roll of a tier 5 weapon which will never happen because every tier 5 I've gotten hasn't had any perk combinations worth keeping.

  • I miss crafted weapons, too, they gave me a reason to log in every week, and I got to feel like I "owned" the weapon I finally got, like it was really mine. I enjoyed weapon crafting, I really did. I understand the detractors, "But crafting means people won't grind for gear!" but my brother, we've got the grindiest season in recent D2 history and people aren't playing it, more grinding wasn't the solution.

  • -I was thinking the same. -When i first started, i knew GM's weren't for me, yet. It took time to get good gear, get a good build together, and it took effort in the activity. -The difference is, i decided when i was ready to do the GM, and one of two things would happen. I would get chewed up and spit back into orbit, or i would make it my B and be rewarded for it. -Today, by simply engaging with the game, you are "forced" into harder and harder activities. I say forced, because if you want a chance at decent gear, you need to be doing the hardest activities. -And, you cant over level the activity(if the patch goes through). So there is significantly less reward for putting in the time and effort.
