Bungie now has less to maintain.
I think that was the goal. They lost one-third of their workforce, according to Wikipedia. Probably even more. They're working on Marathon, and they have to maintain their co-development with NetEase of Destiny: Rising.

Check out the latest trailer!" - Peter Olofsson Hermanrud Art Director at Bungie Working on Destiny Rising
Bungie lost his autonomy. The company will be integrated into PlayStation Studios. I think they will prioritize Marathon even more in 2026, when it will be released, over Destiny 2.
I'm sure there are still talented developers (workers). But they are just not enough, numerically, to make a difference. Plus, the QA team was dismissed, which makes work even harder for them.
Since the "Beyond Light" DLC, the game has been in a strange place. The Destiny Content Vault, Sunsetting... Catarina Macedo and Joe Blackburn tried to fix what's possible, but look at their "legacy" today. It's gone. Both left the studio on their own. It's obvious they had their reasons.
Destiny 2 will not come back in its full strength. The management made so many mistakes. The brand is heavily damaged. No one at Bungie can "sell" a success of Destiny 2 to Sony for further support.
It doesn't look good, and I doubt, judging by Bungie's history in leadership, Marathon won't be successful either.
... Catarina Macedo and Joe Blackburn tried to fix what's possible, but look at their "legacy" today. It's gone.
While pre-EoF wasn't perfect it was still enjoyable. Final Shape was only second to Forsaken for "fun". Everything else has just been tolerable.
Destiny 2 will not come back in its full strength. The management made so many mistakes. Marathon seems to be the priority.

I really hope the franchise survives in new installments, but Bungie won’t be at the head of that. Unfortunately I also don’t think Marathon will ever see the light of day. Destiny 2 is gonna die before its release and Sony is gonna shut them down/absorb them
I really hope the franchise survives [...]
I wish the same, but it looks pretty bad. And I don't see myself buying another DLC next year, not like I used to regularly. Personally, I doubt it will cut off. I think more of a state like the original Destiny, which is still online but receives no more updates. It's crazy, Destiny 2 still has so much potential, but they don't take advantage of it. Instead, they just recycle content and mechanics again and again.

I agree with you. It is extremely difficult to turn any business around when you run up against two finite realizations... time and money. What is shocking to me is that multiple people had to greenlight these changes. Not just once, but over and over again to the point where you wonder if this is almost self sabotage in some way.
