I logged in last week to discover that my name was changed by Bungie to a default "Guardian####"; no fanfare, no warning, nothing. I've had this name for years, it has absolutely no negative connotation that I can even find, so I'd love to find out why my name has been struck- and furthermore why I can't change it to anything else? Is there something sinister I'm not aware of, or is it (more likely) that Bungie's name-bot filter was overzealous?
The name removal IS the warning.
What was the old name?
The reason a lot of players right now can't change their names is because of a bug that is deleting name tokens.
So until they fix it no one can change their names.

It's speculative but the timing was uncanny; I played D2 on Tuesday with my u/n intact, hopped into the alpha on Wednesday, and on Thursday when I relogged into D2 I was generic. Maybe it's coincidence, but that's a heck of a coincidence. I wish that they would at least look into the situation.

Until it starts receiving community wide notice, we'll just have to wait and see..... Sorry man. Unless TUINY is a banned word in another language. (Or it's part of your real name) that's the only other thought that comes to mind.

A little bit of info that isn't related to losing your name but a name change token. There's an issue with the tokens which means at some point bungie will likely be giving us new tokens so hopefully it shouldn't be too long before you can swap back to a normal name.
